The Early Warning and Mitigation System (EWMS) supports the end-to-end chain of preparedness and response activities from the continuous tracking of multiple sensor data events to the dissemination of tsunami warnings as well as of maps documenting the post-disaster situation through a reliable operational system to be deployed in the Early Warning and Mitigation Centre in Indonesia.
Connecting various sensor systems, the tsunami modeling and simulation system, and the users of the various crisis products, the EWMS has a core position in the central situation center. Based on the continuous tracking of multiple sensor data events, and the match of pre-calculated, model-based situation scenarios it supports the operator on duty by providing a comprehensive visualization of the current situation including basic geographical information, online sensor information such as the earthquake's epicenter or GPS data timelines as well as the spatio-temporal evolution of the possibly predicted tsunami event.
The evaluation of event probability and risks are visualised to the operator on duty who is responsible for issuing the warning dossier prepared by the EWMS with specific level, content and regional scope.
The EWMS supports the generation and dissemination of warning dossiers taylored to different users. Completing the mitigation functions, the EWMS supports the generation and dissemination of preparedness maps and post-disaster situation maps e.g. for local authorities and humanitarian organizations acting in the field.
